January is definitely the time of slowing down, resting and retreat. After such a busy December, I am tired and a bit weary! Even though I have been really frustrated not having a working kiln at the moment, it really has forced me to take time out from making.

Being self employed and not having the routine of working hours, I have been able to slow down, but I have found it difficult. We live in such a busy world, with lots of doing. My brain is also a busy one, rarely switches off, the challenge has been to quieten my mind, just as much as my body.

I am looking forward to spring coming. Not long now until the Celtic festival of Imbolc, the beginning of February. A midpoint way between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, a time to celebrate the return of the light and the first signs of spring.
