Snowdrops
February is the time that I can start pressing flowers into clay. There is much anticipation as it seems such a long time since the last flowers of last year were in bloom. Snowdrops start appearing, giving us all hope that winter is coming to an end and there are signs of life and growth. Snowdrops press lovely into clay, it is possible to capture all their beauty, particularly in porcelain clay. I love to press them into my luminaries. When they are fired and lit by a candle, the translucency of the porcelain captures and shows the delicateness of these beauties. They seem such a fragile flower, but really they are strong, flowering in winter and even poking through and surviving the snow that we sometimes get at this time of year is not for the weak!
